Chicago Mosaic: Immigrant Stories of Objects Kept, Lost, or Left Behind

EMBROIDERED CROSS (Greece) pages 101-103

It's a framed embroidered cross with accents of gold and silver thread and sequins. It has been in my family for more than one hundred years, and the back of it is covered in crispy, thick masking tape. Oddly enough, it resembles perfectly golden phyllo dough wrapped around a perfectly cooked spanakopita.

The incomparable Jen Spainhour is hosting a fabulous IN-PERSON event in Chicago on Wednesday, 7/26th, at Altar Community from 6 to 8:30 PM.

Jen will chat with this panel of powerful women (I am so honored to be on this list) about various career transition topics. If you are thinking about leaving your job or, are currently job searching, or just want to network with other accomplished women, you won't want to miss the golden tips and insights from this discussion.

I took Jen's 8-week What's Next Course and it changed my life. Truly. It was all due to Jen's program and encouragement and insight that led me to obtain an MFA in creative writing. It was a realization of a life-long dream for me.

What You'll Learn:

💥 How to recognize a pivot point in your career

💥 How you can redefine what success means to you

💥 How to manage your career journey more proactively

💥 How to have a strategic, "long-game" perspective of your career

💥 What it means to "spark your power" in your career

💥 AND honest answers to your questions from female leaders

🎟️ You must register to attend. Click on the link below or in the comments to learn more about the panelist and other details about the evening. You won't want to miss it!

Source List of The Jetsons Characters on Wikipedia: The Jetsons family: (left to right, top row) Rosie (the robot maid), George, Jane, and Judy; (bottom row) Astro (the dog), Elroy.

Growing up, I loved watching The Jetsons. This idea that someday I would be able to wake up and have a shower that was a car wash was something that my eight-year-old self really wanted. I mean, a jet stream on a rolling sidewalk -- where do I sign up?

Now, with AI and Chat GPT, a future is here that George Orwells' "1984" couldn't have predicted. Or did it? TBH, I haven't read it since high school, which was for me in the 80s.

Recently, I graduated with an MFA in creative writing, and during a workshop, I asked my fellow writers if they were worried about AI.

They laughed at me. They guffawed. They reassured me that AI couldn't replace us creative writers. AI doesn't have the sum of the parts that make us --us. We are made of stars. We are God's children. We have souls. We have DNA from our ancestors. We have memories. These are the raw materials that we shape and drill and galvanize to make our one-of-a-kind unique stories.

AI can not replace us.

Honestly, I am not so sure about this. I wish I had their confidence. Today, I experimented with Chat GPT. And here's what happened when uploaded my bio.

CHAT GPT does like the purply prose. Maybe my fellow writers are right, and we won't be replaced for now. I need to update my resume. Maybe I'll try CHAT GPT?

What do you think? Will AI replace writers?
